GLASS BEADS
Glass beads are the most popular all-purpose media used in blast cabinets today. Used for honing, polishing, peening, blending, finishing, removing light burrs, frosting glass and cleaning most light foreign matter. Paint, rust scale and surface residues are some of the comon removal uses. Glass bead blasting generally will not change the dimentional tolerances and can detect weld and solder flaws.

Other Media - not recommended with Cyclone Blast Cabinets
Silica Sand: a common blast media, but it has a health risk concern due to the silica content. Restrictions on usage are becoming very standard. Not Recommended.
Beach Sand, Play Sand, Baby Sand: a very common and inexpensive blast media. Highly aggressive, can be full of all sorts of debris. Not recommended in Cylclone Blast Cabinets. Not Recommended. |
Steel Shot: This round solid particle leaves a dimpled surface after blassting. It is very dense and should only be used in blast cabinets set up for steel shot. Serious operator injury could result if used in an unprepared blast cabinet. Cyclone blast cabinets are not set up for steel shot. Not Recommended.
Steel Grit - Angular Blast Material: produces ideal surface preparation for adherence on new coatings. As with steel shot, this material should be used only in blast cabinets properly setup for metal blast material. Not applicable to Cyclone Blast Cabinets. Not Recommended. |
