1. Determine the Hydraulic Flow Rate of the bucket curl hydraulic circuit.
2. Select the Belltec Digger Model for your application.
3. Specify the Adapter for your carrier.
4. Choose Augers and Extensions.

1. Determine your GPM and PSI

Determine the Hydraulic Flow Rate (GPM) and Pressure (PSI) of the bucket curl hydraulic circuit. Find this in your operator's manual, from your dealer, or from a measurement. (i.e. 27 GPM @ 2,700 psi.) Note: Belltec warranty requires no more than 3,000 psi. If exceeded will have to be limited.

2. Select the Belltec Digger Model for your application.

Review your carrrier's GPM to the Belltec Models and the RPM and Torque charts. More than one Belltec Model will accept your GPM but your GPM will be in the lower, middle, or upper RPMs of the chart. Digging dirt ususally is done at higher RPMs such as 60 to 90 RPM to more easily clear the dirt from the flighting. But if you will be augering tough materials including solid rock, choose the largest Belltec model that your flow rate allows, which often will put you on the lower end of a chart. (i.e. a 27 GPM carrier flow rate would dig rock best with a Belltec model range of 25 to 40 GPM. The larger the model number the higher torque. For digging hard materials, the secret is SLOW AUGER RPM with MAXIMUM TORQUE and MAXIMUM DOWN PRESSURE. For this reason, 3-point, backhoe, and excavator carriers work for solid rock. Belltec heavier H-Series Diggers offer transmission protection with a standard equipment shear flange, a $150 replacement if needed. The heaviest, HD series require a case drain kit to send back overflow hydraulic fluid back to the resevoir. Below are models suggested for your carrier. 3. Specify the Swivel to connect your Belltec digger to your carrier.

Backhoe or Excavator Bucket Pin Swivel: Specify your Bucket Curl Pin Diameter, and the Width measurement between the bracket ears on your stick.

4. Choose Augers and Extensions.

Dirt augers are mostly for the Midwest alluvial soils. The "penny test" indicates rock harness. Either the penny will scratch the rock or the rock will scratch the penny. Belltec Augers will drill either but hard rock REQUIRES maximum down pressure and maximum torque. But the heaviest-duty auger you can afford. Replacement teeth are inexpensive but not commonly needed. Belltec Augers are standard in four foot lengths with extensions to six foot. Additional extensions or an Ellington Expandable Kelly Bar can be added to dig to depths of 20 plus feet. (Belltec has an excellent warranty up to five years on some models but limited to 10 foot depths).
